Sumatran coffee represents the majority of the coffee production across all of Indonesia. Organically grown in Aceh Tengah region at 1450m (4750’), this G1 harvest is wet hulled processed. This is common in Sumatra because of their naturally humid climate. This coffee is the highest grade Arabica (G1 on a scale of 1-6) meaning it has the greatest consistency and is meant for specialty single-origin roasting, not necessarily mass blending. The Gayo varietal likely has shared ancestry with early Bourbon varietals and tends to have slightly lighter body than Mandheling. We roast to a med/dark profile to balance all the great character of the cup resulting in a heavier mouth feel and smooth drinking experience. Brew it up in your french press to emphasize the body or via pour over to accentuate the more subtle flavors. However you make it, it’s a crowd pleaser for those new to specialty coffee and long-time coffee drinkers alike.

Hipster tasting notes: The pull of the actual jungle while set amongst the pillars of the concrete jungle enflames modest impulses to disembark at the next stop. An afternoon filled with dark chocolate and plums raises an eyebrow. The audacity! A pause, however, as you reimagine the choice not between two jungles but multitudes set outside conscious consideration. What then of THE jungle you initially imagined? Is this not still a beacon, a goal, a lesson you never learned in sophomore Social Studies? Perhaps the distractions were actually useful after all.
